Missouri Superload Escort Updates

MO: Superload Escort Updates

Starting January 1, 2026, the Missouri Department of Transportation will launch a pilot program to make it easier for law enforcement to provide escorts for transporting superloads. This program aims to simplify the process for these heavy cargo moves.

Earlier this year, Missouri DOT updated rules for transporting oversized loads. Changes include higher size limits, easier access during off-peak hours, and fewer holiday restrictions. A new pilot program aims to better align with rules in nearby states, including:

7 CSR 10-25.020(15)G5A – The threshold for law enforcement escorts for overwidth loads on two-lane highways is currently 16’ and will now apply when the load exceeds 18’ in width.

7 CSR 10-25.020(15)G5C – The threshold for law enforcement escorts for overlength loads on all highways is currently 150’ and will now apply when the load exceeds 200’ in length.

7 CSR 10-25.020(15)G5D – The threshold for law enforcement escorts for overheight loads on all highways is currently 17’ and will now apply when the load exceeds 18’ in height.

This pilot program will be watched closely during 2026 to find any negative effects on traffic.
